About This Mural

This charming public mural lives in downtown San Marcos on Feltner Alley, just across from the Price Center & Garden. Commissioned by Melissa Forrester in memory of her late husband, George Forrester, the piece celebrates his love for the often-overlooked wonders of the San Marcos River.

You’ll find delicate nods to local treasures like pearl milkweed blooms, wild rice pods, Turk’s cap buds, and bald cypress cones; each element chosen with care. When the sun sets, the Monarch Yellow glows and metallic copper branches sparkle.

Yellow mural with vibrant green and red plant illustrations on a building exterior under a partly cloudy sky.

About the San Marcos River

The San Marcos River is a spring-fed jewel winding through the heart of Central Texas, known for its clear, steady waters and rich biodiversity. Its banks and currents are home to an incredible array of life, from endangered fish and turtles to rare aquatic plants like Texas wild rice. Lush vegetation, blooming riverflowers, and drifting seedpods create a delicate, living tapestry along its edge. For locals, the river is more than just a natural landmark. It’s a source of calm, wonder, and connection. This mural draws directly from those often-overlooked botanical details, honoring the quiet beauty that thrives just beneath the surface.
